“Beyond benefiting the AMA and its target audience, this committee aims to develop student advocacy skills. The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada has identified a CanMEDS competency framework highlighting the necessary medical education competencies in Canada. One of these roles includes health advocacy. Physicians act as advocates for the patients and communities that they serve.”

Sana Samadi

“I got involved with the AMA student advocacy committee because as a medical student I wanted a voice concerning all of the healthcare policies being pushed forwards. I wanted to support other students in the same position and give them a voice to speak up about the issues that matter to them.”

Kaiden Jobin

“I joined the AMA Medical Students Advocacy Committee after recognizing limited opportunities for medical students to engage in healthcare policy even if desiring positive change. I believe it is essential for trainees to both understand the challenges facing our health care system and contribute to solutions. Through this role, I aim to advocate on behalf of my peers while creating pathways for other students to engage meaningfully in advocacy.”
